SHATTA WALE

“I Really Want Africa To Accept Me The Way I Am…” – Shatta Wale

Shatta Wale

Controversial Ghanaian dancehall star, Shatta Wale is calling on Africans and everyone else to accept him the way he is and his Shatta Movement.
This statement was made more than once during his live interview on Instagram with Soundcity where the singer was talking about the number of features he has in his new album, Reign.
When asked how many African artiste he has in his album aside Olamide whom he revealed he is featuring, the singer went on what seems like a defensive statement on why he hasn’t featured more African artiste in an album that is supposed to be about Africa. He said;
It’s a great project I’m doing and I really want Africa to buy me and accept me the way I am with my Shatta movement and in terms of the Shatta brand as well. I felt if I needed somebody on the album, I could’ve dropped anybody on it for him or her to just do stuff but I feel wonders came with Olamide’s feeling and when I asked my fans on Snapchat… it’s Olamide for now, no be rushing thing. My boy Burna boy dey there, Wizkid dey there, Davido dey there, you know I get a whole lot of artiste wey me I know but music is a spiritual thing, no be rush thing… so on this album we have Olamide on it and the album is strictly for Africa”
The issue of Africans accepting him was once again mentioned when he was asked if he has ever thought of featuring Wizkid or 2face in his Oluwa is my Boss track.
He said;
Yea, you know, it’s a great song and I believe more beautiful songs are going to come up like that. That’s what I’m saying, I just want people to accept me and understand me as me you know, so when I’m doing songs I know I need to feature people on it like that, but people know how to listen to good song and music lovers know what is good music, so yea, we’re just going with the trend…” that doesn’t seem like the question asked what answered, but it sure feels like Shatta Wale is answering all question with his song of acceptance, asking that African accept him the way he is so that they can collaborate and create good music together.
This statement takes us back to the Stonebwoy interview we recently reported where Stonebwoy stated that he is not ready to do any song with Shatta even after Shatta Wale called him continuously. According to Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale cannot tarnish his image behind him and come around seeking for a collaboration so they can make up. To Stonebwoy, that kind of relationship is not one he can tolerate.
That said, the same issue might be what is affecting Shatta Wale with other artistes like Wizkid whom he has in one way or the other insulted publicly and now finding hard to make peace with because it looks like he has also been trying to get through to Davido, but nothing yet because he revealed that Davido was getting too busy for him and he doesn’t like it. Although the words were said in an unserious manner, one could tell that he was serious about it.
Speaking about his Shatta Movement, he said;
I know a whole lot of Africans is gonna get this news, but Shatta movement is just a clique that likes to make people know who we really are. We be youth wey we feel say, yea, we can really make life out of music and it’s music we want to do. It’s not about violence, it’s not about fighting, you know. We believe entertainment comes in a big package and we really wanna tell the world about it and show Africa about it. Maybe the more developed world have gotten to realize what music is about and how the package is like, but we wanna show people that yea, these are the boys that can make you happy, these are the youths that are watching Africa to rise to the next level in the world… so everybody wey loves Shatta movement e for know say e be survival movement … e be super scary”.

ICE PRINCE

“I Was Way Hotter Three Years Ago…” – Ice Prince

Confirming opinions of many, Nigerian singer, Ice Prince Zamani has revealed that he knows he is not as hot as he used to be three years ago when he was spitting hits.

This confession was made on the 9th episode of The M.A.T.S.Podcast with Ovie and Renny when Ovie compared the reception of his music before and now asking the singer if he thinks fans still receive his works the way they used to. He said;
I don’t think so. Obviously, I was way hotter three years ago”
and when asked where that disconnection came in, he said;
“I think it came from me deciding to be independent. When I was using the chocolate city structure I had more to use/more tunes… going independent and staying in the studio for a while, I personally decided to remain in the studio for a long time and now … I’m still looking for the sound that I think is dope. So being independent and staying in the studio, I think that kind of like…”
So to Ice Price, not pushing out work with great tunes as he should’ve continued and spending more time in the studio affected his performance in the industry and disconnected him from the people and it’s sad because it’s a gap he’s still trying to bridge. But he also revealed that this process has also been a learning curve for him as he has learned so much.
“It’s a learning process and I believe in pick up. I believe in  myself so much and I believe in my music so much”
On why he pulled away from his fans, the singer disagreed, saying he didn’t do that, he just wanted time to himself to breathe.
“I didn’t pull away from my fans, sometimes you just have to breathe and I just wanted to breathe but I’m still here, I’m still featured on records… but on social media, I’m not on it like I used to, I don’t know what happened to me, but it works for me perfectly. It keeps me away from trouble if not you would’ve heard my name in a lot of nonsense that my name shouldn’t even be there.  You know where to find me if you want to find me, I’m not just as active on social media.

BLACKBONEZ

I have made more progress in the last two years since I started my career, says rapper

Blaqbonez paid a recent visit to the Pulse office, where in an exclusive interview, he selects 'Consent' as his favourite song off the ''Bad Boy Blaq'' album.

Blaqbonez speaks to Pulse on his new album 'Bad Boy Blaq' (AnagoBolaji)

Blaqbonez brought an end to the  LAMB August offerings with the release of his Bad Boy Blaq album.

Ever since the project dropped, the young rapper have been enjoying a warm response from music lovers online with the album working its way up to getting him the recognition he deserves.
Blaqbonez recently paid a visit to the Pulse office, where he discussed the new album, meeting MI Abaga and the situation with Adekunle Gold.

He shared the process of putting together the album Blaqbonez (Instagram/Blaqbonez)

''I started recording in February, I had the idea for what I wanted to do since last year, the earliest songs that made the album were recorded in February...
I recorded a lot of songs, so eventually when I was putting out the album, there were 20 tracks left, it is not like the other ten that didn't make the album were not good.
I felt like I had done a lot as regards rapping in the past, 'Bad Boy Blaq' is my seventh project, I have done a lot of rapping on the past projects, I just felt it is time to put rapping as not the most important thing, but making music, that is something that is sonically pleasing that people will enjoy.''
He says this decision is based on maturity and present trend, ''As much as possible, I want revenue, and for you to get revenue, you need to make music that cuts across a larger audience.''

On how he met MI Abaga  Loose Kaynon, Blaqbonez, AQ and MI at the Lamb August listening session (TheNerve)

''I met MI at a Vector show, Lafiaji concert, we met backstage and he called my name, it was surreal for me, I was a fan who had never met him and the first time meeting him, he already knew my name.
I think our relationship became a bit stronger during the time he dropped 'Fix Up Your Lives.''
Blaqbonez was one of the artists who recorded a response to MI's controversial single, 'Fix Up Your Lives' and he says his reply didn't affect their relationship.
''No, that was what he wanted when he released the song, he did not want to release it and everybody will sit down and be quiet.
Is the message actually true? Is South Africa killing us rap-wise, yes? Are our rappers doing enough? No, maybe it is the fault of the fans, fault of media or anyone else, but still, it is just the facts and I focused on the message, while others who recorded replies attacked the messenger.
I reminded him that I have held my own, I had dropped six projects, MI has been around 10 years he dropped eight projects, for me that I have been underground to drop seven projects [including Bad Boy Blaq], you know that I have put in a lot of work, that was the whole idea of my response.
I have been in the industry since 2011 when I dropped my first project, I have dropped a project every year since then.'' he stated.
He refuses to compare himself with any rapper out there, ''I don't see myself as better than the next guy when I listen to any rapper, I try to understand what the person has and what I can learn from that person.
Overtime after dropping all those numerous projects that people say 'you are the best rapper', I thought to myself, after dropping all these projects, I didn't blow, but these other rappers blow, so I had to talk to myself and in the last two years, I have made more progress than I ever made in my career, that old mentality has changed.''

He speaks on the album, ''Bad Boy Blaq''

On his favourite track, He chooses 'Consent', ''Because it [Consent] was new ground for me, it was the first song I sang 80%, it has this hold on me,'' he says.
